MAC Holiday 2014 Pigment Set- Gold & Beige Review

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches

MAC has done it again!  They released awesome holiday sets!  I am particularly fond of this pigment set in Gold & Beige.  5 Amazing colors that do not disappoint!

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches
Left to Right: Lithe, English Gilt, Pretty It Up, Gold Glitter and Deep Brown

Each set contains 4 pigments and 1 glitter.  The sizes are smaller than the full size pigments and retail for $35.  Such a great deal! The only downside to this collection for me is the containers themselves.  The top is very hard to get a brush into.  As much as I love the look of the smaller pigment jars I find myself pouring into the cap or onto a napkin.  I find pouring onto a napkin to be slightly wasteful but what can a makeup addict do?

All of the pigments are beautiful neutral colors that blend beautiful to create amazing eye looks.  What I love the most about pigments is you have control of the look.  You can use a base under the pigment to create a highly concentrated color or use them as a subtle highlight.  So many options!

I am obsessed with all of the holiday packaging at MAC.  I love the glitter box!

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches

Lithe reminds me of Naked but a little more peach than pink.  Beautiful peachy nude with shimmer. Gorgeous lid color that reflects light golden beige.  Looks stunning applied wet or dry. Limited Edition.

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches
English Gilt is my new favorite pigment.  Bright Champagne with cool shimmer.  I love applying this wet to the lid.  Limited Edition.

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches
Pretty It Up is a stunning olive with pearlized shimmer.  Applied dry it gives your lid a beautiful shimmer.  When applied wet you lids will have a metallic look.  Beautiful for the holidays! Limited Edition.

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches
Gold glitter is just that, gold glitter.  When applying you must use a base or something for the glitter to stick to.  Gold can me used many different ways.  Very chunky.  Permanent.

Oddly enough MAC does not recommend using this on your eyes.

MAC, Holiday, Pigment, Gold, Beige, Swatches
Deep Brown is a color I never would have purchased and I am SO happy it was in this set.  I never thought a deep matte brown pigment would be so easy to blend and all around amazing.  Applying this to my outer V gave my look a stunning smokey effect.

Top to Bottom: Deep Brown, Gold Glitter, Pretty It Up, English Gilt and Lithe

Did you pick up any MAC holiday sets?  What do you think of these pigments?  I will be using this pigments in a few looks this week and will update this blog post with pictures.  So far I am loving them!

REVIEW- Sonia Kashuk All That Jazz Holiday Brush Set

Sonia Kashuk All That Jazz Brush Set

Last week I was in Target (imagine that!!) and I saw this brush set.  I have a lot of makeup brushes and I love most of them.  The last thing I need is another set but I am so glad I picked them up!

You can find the set online and in Target stores for $34.99.  Such an amazing deal for 10 high quality brushes!

The set includes:  1 powder brush, 1 flat-top blusher brush, 1 angled duo-fiber face brush, 1 foundation brush, 1 eye shadow brush, 1 blending brush, 1 crease brush, 1 angled duo-fiber eye brush, 1 precision eye brush and 1 lash/brow groomer.

Every brush in this set is a quality brush.  The first time I used the set I did see a little shedding but after I washed them the shedding stopped.

I am in love with the black/gold detail and ivory bristles.  All the brushes are incredibly soft!

How gorgeous are these brushes?  I've used the set consistently for over a week and I am very impressed.

For a more in depth review of each brush please checkout my review video.  This was also the first video i filmed on my new camera.  I am so in love!!!

Did you pick up this set?  What do you think of it?

My Top Ten Blogging Tips

I've been blogging for over 3 years.  I can't even believe it has been that long!  I started my blog as a way for Law Enforcement Wives to connect, share budget ideas, tips, etc but it blossomed into so much more.  I am thankful for that!

Blogging is a creative outlet for me.  It allows me to connect with other people, share my ideas, tips and I enjoy reading blogs.  Never in a million years would I have thought I could/would have a space in the internet universe.

I will be honest.  I hate writing!  It takes me for.ev.er to write a post and edit pictures.  It wasn't until recently I found my love for writing.  This brings me into my first tip.

I misspell words,  my grammar is not perfect and I use !!!! way to much but that is me.   I tend to live my life over the top and have fun with everything I do.  Writing doesn't need to be super duper formal.  Sure I confuse ; and , but honestly until an autocorrect turns as into ass we are ok!  Don't stress yourself out about a typo.  It happens.  I would much rather read a blog with humor.

I know some people will call a blogger a sellout if they do sponsored posts.  I will be honest, I've done more sponsored posts this year than ever.  The reason being, it costs money to blog.  I use my sponsor money for projects, fees, etc.  Honestly I offset any income with expenses for tax purposes.  If you love a product and a company is willing to pay your for your time to blog WHY NOT?  Bloggers should not be working for free.

As a blogger you will meet Trolls and receive spam messages.  It comes with the territory.  Shrug it off and move on.  When someone criticizes something I do or say I will listen or read the comment and decide if it is worth my time.  99.9% of the time the comment is from a troll trying to ruin the joy of your post.  Block them or ignore them.  The next minute is a new minute.  Move along accordingly.

If you like it or not you are a brand.  Embrace it.  I am not saying you should make T-shirts with your face on them and slap magnets on your car but you are the face for your blog.  You are your own brand.

Think about it this way.  If you are a fashion blogger, people like YOUR style.  If you post recipes, people like YOUR recipes.  Same for a craft blogger.  They like YOUR crafts.  You see where I am going here.  Don't be intimated by this, run with it!

It is true.  With all the social media you can get sucked in and before you know it, it is 6:30 at night.  I normally post my blog on all my media channels.  Depending on the post I will focus on that media channel.  For example, this post is more details and chatty.  I will create a super awesome graphic for pinterest and focus the post there and on twitter.  If this was a fashion post or beauty related I would use instagram.  Focus your media on your post.

My blog has almost 500k hits from one post.  My DIY Bathroom.  This happened because ONE blogger featured it after I added it to their link party.  I added it to a few other link parties and it was featured.  It ended up on Pinterest and the rest is history.  I still receive almost 2k hits per day because of that post.

Find a few of your favorite link parties and join them.  I always pick one or two of my favorite posts for that week and share them.  I also visit other shared posts and comment.  That is good blogging etiquette.

I am such a lazy blogger sometimes.  If I don't feel like posting I won't.  I want my posts to reflect me and my attitude.  If I am not in the mood to blog I take a little break.  It helps me refresh and recharge.

Don't be shy about taking a blogging break.   If you take a break don't be gone for to long!  Pop in every once in a while with a post and say hi.  You don't need to be in peoples faces all the time but readers will move on to new favorite blogs.  Always stay connected via posting or media.

When I first started blogging my background was black.  Not joking!  White or light backgrounds are pleasing to the eye but I read a few blogs with awesome pattern backgrounds.

It took me 2.5 years to be brave enough to design my own blog.  I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a designer.  I wish I would have done it when I first started.  If you love the design of your blog you will feel more confident and proud.

If hiring a designer is just not in the budget look for a pre-made template on Etsy.  Some sells will even install them for you!

My very first camera was a little point and shoot.  I didn't think photography was that important.  I WAS WRONG!  It wasn't until my Grandma gave me a Canon SX10IS for my birthday that I realized how important photography is.  You can find nice cameras for $100-$500.

I love my Nikon D3100 for photos.  It is a DSLR but I think I paid like $400 for it.  I also use photoshop and PicMonkey.  I use PicMonkey on 99% of my posts.  It is quick and easy.  I also suggest paying for the Royal version.

If you are new to photography I can't recommend Shoot Fly Shoot enough.  Their online classes are AMAZING!

Take pride in what you do, your posts, your photos and your media.  Order business cards and pass them out.  Grab your camera, take photos, keep a notebook of ideas and enjoy it!

I hope you enjoyed my tips!  I've included a few more mini tips just for fun :)

When taking photos white poster board is amazing.  It will give you a nice white background if needed, reflect light and in a pinch you can use it cover paint on to prevent spills :)  Not that I know that from experience, Ha!

A blogging calendar will help you so much!  I just did a search on Etsy.  Having an editorial calendar keeps me organized and on track.  I also use mine to track expenses, income, stats and a VERY long to do list.

It is easier for me to spend a day editing photos, videos, writing posts, etc.  I use my spare time during the week for social media.  Find what works for you and run with it!

Follow a few of your favorite blogs, comment and interact on social media.  It makes blogging easier when you have friends to talk to.  Also, link up to social media link ups.  Say hi to new bloggers and post kind messages.

Please don't post a comment like this.  This will not make you friends "Hey girl!  Love your post.  Cool idea.  Following you.  Follow me back."

What is your #1 blogging tip?

Top 5 MAC Paint Pots- With Reviews!

Hello!  I am Mandy Jean and I am a Paint Pot addict.  I own a few MAC Paint Pots and I absolutely love them!  They do not crease on me and they blend so easily.

It was hard to narrow it down but I picked my top 5 to share with you.

You can find Paint Pots online, at MAC stores and Counters.  They retail for $20 for 5g of product.

Depending on my skin I switch up Soft Ochre and Painterly.  I like Soft Ochre better because I find it covers any discoloration on my lids better than Painterly.  This color is matte.

Soft Ochre is my favorite eye shadow base!  I can wear it alone or with shadows on top and the wear time is over 12 hours before I start to see fading.

*Covers discoloration
*Wear time
*Not Drying

*Dries up in container quickly.  I wish it was sold smaller.

Rubenesque is a beautiful peach with gold.  It is definitely sheer compared to other paint pots but I love the soft peach with shimmer on my lids.  This is one of my favorite products for a "no makeup" makeup look.

I love laying the color down and adding a second layer a few minutes later.  That does build up the color but it is not overly shimmery.

*Peachy/Copper color
*Easy to blend and build up

Indianwood and Antique Diamond are 2 of my favorite Paint Pots ever.  I love this bronze metallic color.  It is super pigmented and lasts for hours.  I've had mine for over a year and it has not showed any signs of drying out.

*Nothing!  I would pay $20 for this over and over again!

Antique Diamond is a olive color with a hint of silver frost.  This color is creamy and easy to blend.  I love how you can sheer it out and build it up.

I normally wear this color alone and once it is set, it is set for the day.  It does not budge, smudge, crease, or fade for a good 12 hours.

*Easy application and very smooth
*Lasting Power

*Practice makes perfect.  Once this is set you can not fix anything

I would describe Blackground as a soft black with silver shimmer.  The silver shimmer can cause this color to look light black, gray, a little purple and sometimes even dimensional.

Blackground is easy to blend and when used as a base under shadows lasts for hours.  I did notice that this color tended to fade on its own after 8 hours when my other paint pots do not.

*Dimensional color
*Easy to blend and move

*Wear time

What is your favorite eyeshadow base?  What is your favorite paint pot color??

Is There a Kelly Yum Yum Dupe???

I've heard so many people were disappointed when Kelly Yum Yum sold out.  I was fortunate enough to snag one at a MAC store.

I grabbed a few of my of favorite MAC pinks to see how similar they were to Kelly Yum Yum.

For my review of Kelly Yum Yum click here

I currently own a few pinks but these five I thought would be similar to Kelly Yum Yum.

Candy Yum Yum-Matte- Neon blue based pink.  Darker than Kelly Yum Yum.
Impassioned- Amplified- More coral than Kelly Yum Yum.  Similar pigmentation.
Pink Pigeon-Matte-Darker than Kelly Yum Yum.  Similar texture.  More purple
Embrace Me- Limited Edition-Matte- More fuchsia
Show Orchid- Amplified Creme- Way more fuchsia and blue.

The color that is similar to Kelly Yum Yum is Candy Yum Yum.  If you are looking for a creamer texture than a matte I would suggest Pink Pigeon or Impassioned.  Impassioned is far more coral but it is still a beautiful color.

REVIEW- MAC Dodgy Girl Lipstick

Before we start the review if you see this lipstick at a counter or on a blog sale PICK.IT.UP!

I own 7 purple tone MAC lipsticks and Dodgy Girl is my new favorite.  This color is from the Kelly Osbourne collection that is sold out online but you may still find it at a counter or blog sale.
Dodgy Girl is a light purple matte lipstick.  It is incredibly creamy and doesn't feel dry on the lips.

The pigmentation is amazing!  The color is also beautiful.  I own a few MAC matte lipsticks and this one is definitely the creamiest.  It is also the easiest to apply.

Dodgy Girl lasts 3 to 4 hours on the lips before it starts to fade.

*It is sold out!

I did grab a few of my other purple MAC lipsticks to compare for ya'll but none of them are similar to Dodgy Girl.

Dodgy Girl is just one of those amazing colors!

Did you pick anything up from the recent MAC collections?

REVIEW- MAC Pigment- Melon

About a month or so ago MAC came out with a  few products in a "sized to go" collection.  Basically these products are smaller but everything is $10.  The products range from pigments, mascaras, lip glasses, and skincare.  I picked up 2 pigments.

The pigment on the left is blue brown and normal 4.5 gram bottle.  On the right is Rose in the sized to go 2.5 gram bottle.

4.5 gram bottles of pigment are $21.  The sized to go is $10.  Unless you are using your pigments for other purposes the sized to go version is the way to go.  It will take me years to use a pigment.  As far as the value goes you are getting a little over half a bottle for half the cost.

I decided to purchase Melon because of the gold and peach colors.  This pigment is beautiful!

I swatched the pigment wet and dry.  When putting pigments on dry they will still keep some shimmer and sparkle but as you can see if you use them wet the color is more intense and you get a foiled finish.

When using pigments wet I recommend spraying your brush with MAC Fix+ or eye drops.  Water works but I do think the colors are more vibrant with Fix+.

If you are interested in trying out a few MAC pigments I would totally recommend grabbing a few of the sized to go.  Seriously, these pigment is going to last me years!

The full pigment line is not offered in the sized to go but they do have vanilla, naked, kitschmas, violet, melon (shown), rose (review coming), old gold (review coming, and my all time favorite blue brown (review coming).

What is your favorite pigment?  I have been eyeing some makeup geek ones too!  I love pigments!

REVIEW- MAC Maleficent Lipstick- True Love's Kiss

Part of my MAC Maleficent haul was this lithe gem of a lipstick in True Love's Kiss.  This lipstick is sold out online but you may find it in select stores.  I would suggest calling your local MAC store.

I almost didn't buy this lipstick but I am glad I did.  After purchasing it I realized that all of my favorite MAC red lipsticks are matte.  This lipstick is an amplified which mean it feels amazing on the lips!

I would suggest using a lipliner.  My favorite is MAC Cherry.

*Creamy on the lips
*Doesn't dry out and get patchy
*Lasted a good 4 hours with lipliner, drinking and light morning snack
*Hint of shimmer but not super glittery.

*MAC missed a huge opportunity for cool packaging.
*Must use a lipliner
*Price.  This lipstick was $17.50

RiRi Woo and Ruby Woo are mattes but definitely the closet to True Love's Kiss color.  Viva Glam Rihanna has the same texture (frost) but has more gold in it.  I do love all 4 colors!

If you have RiRi or Ruby Woo and don't mind adding a clear gloss on top I don't think True Love's Kiss is a must have.  True Love's Kiss is not as drying on the lips.

What is your favorite red?
